We evolved from Carolina "Advertise Anything" Trading Directory.
The original Trading Directory covered the North Carolina Outer
Banks and as of 2007 had been fitfully slumbering for about 27
years. We modeled this website format and page layout after
original Trading Directory editions, such as Volume 1, Number 17,
Nov. 27, 1981, thumbnails of which are below.
Trading Directory was born in a sparsely populated region where
commodities and services were available mostly from
family-owned or solely-owned businesses. That weekly periodical
offered inexpensive business display advertising by the
column-inch, ran "non-commercial" for-fee advertising and was
filled with what we hoped was fairly titillating content. Material
included display advertising from local retailers, a varied collection
of things (often with pictures thereof) for sale by private parties,
TV listings with entertainment pieces, and insight regarding the
neighbors gleaned from noting what was for sale by whom.
WWTDirectory.com will continue what its ancestor started. We
hope that the new edition of Trading Directory will be difficult for
browsers to put aside. A shopper will be able to explore a
country brimming over with small, family-owned specialty and
general commodity shops and they will soon have a world filled
with interesting independent outlets. WWTDirectory.com will
offer more material and broader services than did its child, and it
will attempt to cover a significantly larger area.
